My oldest daughter’s first work (illustrated by the author) presents a story with tight writing (no wordy padding) and gets to the point. A clear beginning with inciting incident and straightforward denouement. The lack of ‘middle’ in the story arc was to be fixed in the rewrite, but you know how busy the life of a school kid can be. I’ve hoped she’d come back to it, but sadly, don’t believe that will ever come to pass. She turns 32 this coming autumn and still has no plans to return to old stories. There will be no recounting of the middle events—the Joseph Campbell ‘Hero’s Journey’ for the ants—in this saga.
