John Wayne was a larger than life actor but Humphrey Bogart was always no more... no less... than a real man in his movies.Warts, blemishes, failings and all. His take on life seemed pure and unfeigned. He was a guy I'd like to go drinking with.
You've seen my profile picture. Perhaps you see why I agree with this quote from Bogart (and feel the same way):
"I’m not good-looking. I used to be but not anymore. Not like Robert Taylor. What I have got is I have character in my face. It’s taken an awful lot of late nights and drinking to put it there. When I go to work in a picture, I say, ‘Don’t take the lines out of my face. Leave them there.’"

I know my "wrapping" isn't as shiny and pretty as it once was. But I'm a better man than I was back then... more substance inside, more capable too. Naturally that comes from taking a full measure of life... and doing more with it than being just a spectator. I dig into life and I fight. I give it that “60-seconds worth of distance run” that Kipling speaks of.
I like that word “unfeigned”. Leave the lines on my face.
